Jillian Garner-Nakayama, MSW Intern

Jillian Garber

Hi! Thank you for stopping by and checking out my biography. I am thrilled to start my MSW (Master of Social Work) internship here at The Counseling Place at Lone Tree. I am currently in my last year of my Master of Social Work degree through University of Kentucky with an emphasis on Trauma informed care. I have my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado and have been working in tele-heath for a company servicing people with OCD and co-morbidities, as well as with populations experiencing grief and loss. I am a crisis counselor and have been working with Rocky Mountain Crisis Counseling helping those in direct crisis and with suicidal ideation, substance use, and homicidal ideation. I will also be certified in EMDR therapy in July 2024.

Work Experience

My therapeutic style is a combination of curiosity and directness, while focusing on you in a holistic and whole person way. I used a strength-based, trauma-informed approach to each client and aim to create a space that is calm, safe, and non-judgmental, for you to explore parts of yourself that may otherwise be hidden. I will walk with you through it, helping you to feel safe in uncovering places you are stuck and hurting while keeping you accountable to yourself and your reason for being in therapy. This is your journey, and I am here to help you facilitate and guide you in your healing. I will always meet you where you are and help you gain skills and tools so you can get to where you want to be.

You and I will work best together if you are ready to commit to yourself and your healing journey. One of my favorite quotes is ‘The truth will set you free.’ I genuinely believe this, but in the sentiments of Ted Lasso ‘But first It’ll piss you off.’

A little about me:

I am a wife, mom to an incredible 3 yr. old and two amazing stepsons in their early teens. I am a Colorado Native and a walking cliche of that. I love hiking, I have a dog (and a cat), I drove a Subaru at one point. I love gardening, making jewelry, baking, traveling, learning, writing, and so much more.

I truly look forward to meeting you and working with you on your journey!
